César Manrique Foundation

César Manrique Foundation

César Manrique House-Museum is built in more than original home that the artist and genius César Manrique had in the village of Tahiche and which was also used as his art studio. More than a house, it is a magnificent work of art where the hand of Cesar Manrique perfectly blends the volcanic nature of the island of Lanzarote with the typical architecture of this volcanic paradise. A house built in 1968 and whose visit is an experience that will not leave you indifferent.

If you are on holiday in Lanzarote it is practically a must to visit the César Manrique Foundation and discover with it a unique place where you can admire the architectural perfection of César's work and see how this house blends with the volcanic nature of Lanzarote in a relationship of permanent respect.

Foundation's objective is the conservation and diffusion of César Manrique's work while promoting respect for the natural environment of the island of Lanzarote; which made this place his main home, where he lived for more than 20 years.

The construction was located in the middle of a lava flow that originated the great eruptions between 1730 and 1736. This construction occupies 3,000 square meters and a farm of more than 30,000.

All built on 2 levels, where the natural space of 5 natural volcanic bubbles is used in its lower level, communicated between them by means of tunnels excavated from lava. All this gives rise to a surprising and habitable home, completely merged with a natural volcanic landscape, accompanied by vegetation, swimming pool, dance floor, oven and even barbecue!

Today we cannot imagine Lanzarote as we know it without taking into consideration the figure of César Manrique. There are still many who ask themselves what was or what did César Manrique stand out in? Even if Manrique did not have those deep technical studies of architecture, we can affirm without mistake that apart from being ahead of his time and a genius, among many other things César was a painter, sculptor, ecologist, conservator of monuments, architect, designer of urban complexes and planner of wonderful spaces, landscapes and gardens.

We can be grateful that his legacy has been respected to this day and that this allows us to admire even today the wonders that this genius was able to create and the imprint that his hand left; to which is added an army of followers and imitators of his work and that make Lanzarote today such a special island.

Foundation brings you closer to his work in a unique way and from here we encourage you to get to know it and discover why César Manrique was such a universal artist.
