Timanfaya National Park

Visit Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya National Park located in Lanzarote, or also known as Las Montañas de Fuego (Fire Mountains) is the result of volcanic eruptions that hit the island  between 1730 and 1736 and in 1824.

These volcanic eruptions changed dramatically the morphology of Lanzarote, leaving much of it hidden under a heavy mantle of lava and ash expelled from the now called Fire Mountains, a very successful name because today in some of the areas you can see the heat emerging from the Earth. Its most active point is located in the Hervideros where you can see geothermal demonstrations.

This large eruptive process, has been and is, one of the most important facts of the volcanism of the Earth that has hardly suffered human alterations.
Together with the special weather conditions of the Fortunate Islands, this has allowed the volcanic landscape to remain practically unchanged.
