Mirador del Río
Mirador del Río
Mirador del río, a place where you can enjoy one of the best views of Lanzarote where you can see the spectacular Chinijo archipelago and the eighth island of the Canary Archipelago: La Graciosa.
Situated at more than 400 metres above sea level, this viewpoint is located on the Risco de Famara (in Famara, north-west of Lanzarote) where one of César Manrique's most representative architectural works can be found.
Its name comes from the River, as it is called to the arm of sea that separates Lanzarote from La Graciosa (and the Chinijo Archipelago) island that we can perfectly appreciate from this viewpoint and that leaves us a spectacular landscape for our snapshots; without a doubt a perfect point to photograph one of the most beautiful landscapes of the island.
This monument of Manrique has a glass window that surrounds the whole walk integrated in the stone, with a wooden handrail perfectly combined with the nature of the place. Inside you can find several facilities such as a restaurant where you can have a good meal or a coffee with these spectacular views and a souvenir shop so you don't go home without a detail of the island.
Mirador del Rio history
In ancient times, this site housed an artillery position called Baterias del Rio, whose purpose was to protect this strategic position during the war with the United States at the end of the 19th century. It was in the early 1970s when César Manrique, a writer, painter, architect and lover of his island of origin Lanzarote, designed this work so well blended in with the surroundings on the wall of the Risco de Famara.
This work has become a place of observation and disconnection for everyone who visits it.
