Shopping in Gran Canaria

"You can't buy happiness, but you can go shopping in Gran Canaria, which is almost the same thing."

This is the quote that best sums up the feeling of shopping in a destination like Gran Canaria, which has the highest concentration of shopping centres and shopping areas per number of inhabitants in the world. That said, imagine the endless possibilities that open up before you in this wonderful shopping destination that Gran Canaria offers. This destination has a more advantageous tax system with respect to the rest of Europe, which means cheaper prices for most products, making Gran Canaria one of the best possible destinations worldwide for shopping on your holiday with the added bonus of one of the best weather conditions in the world.

Commercial areas in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria:
  • Triana: Located in the historic centre of the capital next to Vegueta, this is a huge street full of fashion, leisure and gastronomic establishments, where you can spend a pleasant day of shopping enjoying the wonderful weather that characterises the capital.
  • Mesa y López: This is the area closest to the urban beach Las Canteras, and is another of the main places to go shopping in Las Palmas, as well as in the open air to enjoy the good weather of the Canary Islands. There is a wide offer with a great shopping centre El Corte Inglés: a prestigious establishment in all of Spain. Close to the beach of Las Canteras, the perfect place to have a drink and a meal in one of the hundreds of shops along the promenade, as well as to buy some souvenirs for your loved ones. Without a doubt the Mesa y Lopez-puerto area is a great option for your shopping day in Las Palmas

These are the main areas of the capital for open-air shopping, but there are also shopping centers on offer, which we outline below:

  • C.C Las Arenas: Located next to the famous Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and at the end of Las Canteras Beach, is one of the most popular shopping center for locals because of the wide variety of shops of all brands, as well as diverse gastronomic offer and a large terrace for a drink at the end of your day at the beach. Recommended place to go shopping if you are in this coastal area of the capital of Gran Canaria.
  • El Muelle Shopping Centre: This is the other big shopping centre in the coastal area of Gran Canaria's capital. It is located next to Muelle de la Luz and Las Palmas, next to the representative Santa Catalina Park, where all the cruise ships bound for Gran Canaria dock. Many visitors enter this large commercial area to enjoy a few hours of 4 floors full of leisure and fashion establishments. Undoubtedly highly recommended.

This doesn't stop, since we not only find commercial areas on the coast of the capital but also inland, such as:

  • La Ballena Shopping Center: One of the oldest shopping centres in Gran Canaria and with a great tradition. Located in the area of Miller Bajo, about 5 minutes by car from the port area. Good place to spend a pleasant afternoon.
  • 7 Palmas Shopping Center: Close to the C.C La Ballena and located in one of the "new" neighbourhoods of the island, where the most important sports areas of Gran Canaria are concentrated, such as the Gran Canaria Stadium, where the U.D Las Palmas football team plays, or the Gran Canaria Arena, where the C.B Gran Canaria, a first category basketball team plays. Here you can find activities for the little ones, a cinema, many bars and restaurants, and places to do your shopping in Las Palmas.
  • Los Alisios Shopping Center: Although it is not located in a touristic place, it is the commercial centre par excellence of the last few years in the capital, built very recently. It has the widest range of shops, bars and restaurants in the capital, as well as open air, so you can go at any time of the year and enjoy the climate of Gran Canaria by doing some shopping.
  • Las Terrazas and El Mirador: Both shopping centres are located on the outside of the capital, in Telde. If your idea is to look for bargains this could be your perfect place to go shopping in Gran Canaria. However, whether you are staying in the north or the south, you will have to move to this area, which is about 20 - 25 minutes away by car or "guagua".
