Güigüi beach
Güigüi beach is perhaps the image that will come to mind when you are asked what is paradise for you. This wonderful virgin beach, located in the municipality of Aldea de San Nicolás in west of Gran Canaria, is one of the most beautiful places in Canary Islands and you shouldn't miss it when you visit Gran Canaria. Many people also call it the "most exotic and tropical beach of the Atlantic Ocean".

How can I get to Güigüi?
The first and most important thing you should know about Guigui is that the access is not easy at all and it is only possible through two ways: on foot or by boat. If you decide to go on foot, like most visitors, you must do so with the belief that it is not an easy route, carrying enough provisions for the journey and with the certainty that it takes about 2 and a half hours to get to the beach. If you decide to go by boat, the less usual but more effective way, we recommend that you take one of the boat excursions to Guigui, or that you go to the pier and have some of the fishermen in the area get you close by negotiating a price with them. It is true that this last option makes you lose the authenticity of getting there, so if you can go on foot, don't think about it.
What am I going to find when I get to Güigüi?
Once you arrive to Güigüi what you will find is a singular place and surely never seen before, in which the only two beaches of the place stand out, Playa Grande and Playa Chica (curiously, the reality does not correspond with their respective names, since the biggest one is Playa Chica and vice versa). Playa Grande is the first beach you come across when you arrive, usually with more people than Playa Chica. It is important to know that there must be low tide so that you can carefully walk along the path along the beach until you reach Playa Chica.
It is highly recommended that you don't miss the incredible sunset in Guigui, for many of those who have enjoyed it, one of the most beautiful they have ever seen. And it is a privilege to see so clearly the highest peak in Spain located in Tenerife, El Teide. The picture speaks for itself.
What do you have to keep on mind to enjoy Güigüi?
Last but not least, here are some recommendations and things to take into account in your visit to Güigüi beach:
- Temperatures are in the high range, so: Don't forget to take a hat and sunscreen, lots of water, and avoid the hottest hours of the day.
- Remember that to go from Playa Grande to Playa Chica the sea must be low and calm, so take into account the condition of the tides during the hours you are there.
- There is no phone signal in Guigui beach. Only in one store before reaching the beach, but very limited. Remember that Güigüi is synonymous with total disconnection.
- Don't forget that this is a unique and exclusive place in Canary Islands, so please make sure you take your garbage and leave it at least as clean as it was.
- It is quite likely that you will find people practicing nudism. You may not care, but it is important to know before you go.
Although it's contradictory, it should be noted that camping is forbidden in all of Güigüi. We say it's contradictory because many people do it regularly. If you are one of them, do it respecting the environment, it is the best way to enjoy the paradise.
